The media plays a huge role in our society being our main resource for news, communication, and entertainment. Indeed it has made our lives easier; however, consuming too much media can be harmful. Televison has provided us with a "staged world" that we aspire for, sometimes making our expectations and desires unrealistic. Postman states, "As a culture moves from orality to writing to printing to televising, its ideas of truth move with it" (24), conveying how as our formats for representation change, so do our thoughts and consequences. Who knew that the inventions of all forms of media, specifically television, would have affected our thoughts on appearance, the way we choose to live our lives, and even politics?
As Postman concluded, we need more people to start understanding the danger and advocate other forms of media in certain cases.

Media has a great impact on our views and opinions. Like you said, Jennifer, a lot of people are oblivious to this fact. Whether we notice this or not, the shows we watch and the celebrities we follow impact how we see the world. While reading Brave New World a line that struck me was when Mustapha Mond was explaining to John why the civilized do not believe in God. Mond inquires, "One believes things because one has been conditioned to believe them (234)." Huxley is basically trying to convey that what we all believe in is based on influence from our parents, the government, or especially from social media.
