While reading our summer books, the topic that keeps on coming up is technology and particularly social media in general. Everything comes back to us abusing technology and not having face to face interactions. It seems that nowadays we lose track of time and simply spend hours on social media, or texting friends. We are so reliant and glued to our phones, that we choose to not go outdoors often, or explore our surroundings. Even though communication is a huge benefit, we always feel the need to post everything that we do at all times. Also, we are developing an urge for a faster need of gratification. Today we want everything to be faster and better, which causes our technology to keep on improving. I think that the overuse of technology is always going to depend on the person, but our constant need for things to be better is causing us to want things instantly. For example, Amazon now offers same day delivery, and people are willing to pay more money, instead of waiting a few days.
A question that appeals to me is if it is the phone, in general, that is the problem or is it that we are never satisfied on the advancements on a phone? Everyone wants to have the phone with the best quality camera, or the fastest one. All in all, our patience is starting to get thinner, and our demand for wanting things is starting to change our current lifestyle.

I believe that people are never completely satisfied with what they have because they know that technology advances as time goes by which makes them become impatient. Also, when smartphones were invented, people were happy with what they got because it was new and never seen before but now they aren't as happy even though they get the latest phones because they know that phones will advance and become better than the ones they own. This also makes them constantly think about buying the newer phone because the one they own is outdated. This thought of soon not having the newest device causes people to never be satisfied.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you are saying and I wonder when we will draw the line and be satisfied with what we have. I know not everyone in the world may identify themselves as being greedy, but we are now living a lifestyle where our needs are never going to be meet. As technology keeps on improving, our wanting of more is going to keep increasing. Our life from twenty years ago and even ten years ago is much more different than today's. Like I said before people are starting to depend too much on their technology and the constant need of having it with you at all times, or posting everything that we see, is changing our culture entirely. Now we have all these social media apps, and phones that are continuing to increase in size, just to accommodate our wanting of more.

ReplyDeleteThat's just human nature, we always want more then what we have and to be greedy. Technology is advancing very fast to the point where it has many people running right beside it with new demands. For instance using the "Back to the Future" movies, in the second film the main characters go into the year 2015. Of course this film was made in 1989 and no one knew how far technology would take us, during the film it showed flying cars, hoverboards, advanced robots, and etc. When the year 2015 eventually did come around many people complained on how we didn't have that kind of technology yet. We are never satisfied with ourselves, we want more and more. For example the girl who has it all and is very wealthy, will see someone who has more and will beg for what they have but better. Also like the new iPhones, they grew in size to the point where they’re about the size of tablets but almost everyone needs them. Once again it's just human nature that we need more than what we already have, we are just greedy human beings. Its sadly normal.
