In chapter one of Amusing Ourselves to Death Postman speaks about attention spans and how the effects on us due to advertising. He speaks about how the media plays a role on how we understand certain due to the way the media makes it to seem. In other words, he believes that when something is presented it affects the reader's thinking solely based on the way it is presented. Also in chapter two of this book the author speaks about the difference between printed press and televised press. He believes that the televised press chooses our type of culture because we are more drawn to the media rather than the printed press. He goes into more depth about how printed press is completely different than media press and he describes how the televised press affects the knowledge of a situation presented.
