The Boons and Banes of Technology

In today's society we live in a day and age that is constantly surrounded by technology. How long has it been since you checked your phone for any type of notifications? Probably not that long am I right? Technology has many benefits, but it also changes our communication skills in a negative way. With that it leaves us with the lack emotion, and the absence of intimacy.

Don't get me wrong technology has helped us in many ways, two examples are the world of business and education. In the world of business people are often work with  computers in the comfort of their own office. Computers have made it possible to not only share information but also to undergo transactions between companies. Also telephones are a huge factor since they allow businesses to stay in contact and by with the simple push of a button they are able to make purchases or simply make a quick phone call. Now in the world of education technology is increasingly being used in and out of the classroom and has aided students and teachers alike. The Internet is a great example of how it aids in education. It is being used to give out grades, assignments and even lessons.

However it is very easy for someone to become addicted to the Internet, it's a powerful tool that helps people stay in constant contact. The Internet can cause a strain in any relationship, whether it's romantic or between family. A child could be playing video games while their friends are outside playing hide-and-go seek or tag, there's no socializing. Also what's very sad is that you go to a place where a bunch of people hang out at say the mall for example, and all of them of are on their phone. What's the point of hanging out if you're ignoring those who are with you? What's even more sad is that couples are doing it too. My family and I went to have dinner one day and there was a couple sitting at the booth next to us. Instead of conversing with each other and having a nice evening they were on their phones the entire time, neither of them said a word to each other. Is technology really worth losing such a precious form of communication? I think not.

  1. Unfortunately many people are willing to give up communication for technology, we are so attached to our smart phones that even some have forgotten how to communicate. Personally I'd rather give up my smart phone, laptop, and iPod just to spend the day out with my two best friends and family. My smart phone is not more important then the people who matter to me the most, a smart phone can be replaced but these people can not. Relationships now are based off technology and texting, we have completely lost our commination skills. We can't even look each other in the face and say, hello.
