Our Ford And Savior

While reading Brave New World, you may notice the characters talking about or praising their "Ford And Savior".  They are most likely referring to probably the most well know Ford out there, Henry Ford.  They seem to revere him as the focus of their religious beliefs, they even say they've taken all of the crosses associated with Christianity and Catholicism and cut them into T's; this is done due to Ford's Model T, the very first car to be mass-produced in factories.  There could be many reasons exactly why Aldous Huxley chose Henry Ford as a person of worship in Brave New World, but I believe the book already tells us.  It tells us that all crosses were cut into T's, and that's the key to figuring this out.  Brave New World's society doesn't value individuality or uniqueness, it mass-produces people in facilities, and seeing how the Model T was the first mass-produced car, it makes sense that Brave New World's society would worship its creator, Ford.  There could be other reasons, however, this is just what I took away.

  1. The way I took it was that since this is a dystopian society, maybe somewhere along the line, Henry Ford made his own religion and as the years passed on and on, The god of Christianity and Catholicism was wiped out of existence and replaced with Ford's new religion. Of course, this is not the case because in the book, the bible and other religious texts are still in existence, just hidden so nobody can read them.
